Underskirt owned by Empress Josephine, First Empire

From the Chateau de Malmaison Costume Collection app:

“This underskirt was given by the Empress to her friend Madame de Girardin. They had shared the same prison during the Reign of Terror and Madame de Girardin was lady-in-waiting to Princess Julie, wife of Joseph Bonaparte under the Empire. It is one of the few pieces of lingerie in the museum that was originally part of Josephine’s wardrobe.”
